Thane traffic restrictions will be imposed near Loha-Palawa Junction in Kalyan for seven consecutive nights from September 15 to 22 as the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation carries out flyover construction, according to the Thane Traffic Police. The restrictions will coincide with the initial days of Ganeshotsav, which begins on September 14, and will affect vehicles travelling between Kalyan, Mumbra, Kalyan Phata and Kalyan-Shilphata.
The traffic curbs will be enforced from 11.30 pm to 5 am each night to facilitate the installation of four cement girders using a crane. The work is part of a flyover being constructed on the road from Loha-Palawa Junction via Kartai and Desai Khadi towards Kalyan-Shilphata.
Light vehicles travelling from Kalyan towards Mumbra and Kalyan Phata will not be allowed to enter at Loha-Palawa Junction, opposite Navratna Sweet Corner. The vehicles will be diverted to the opposite carriageway and allowed to proceed up to the Kasa Rio cut, where they will take a left turn towards their respective destinations.
During the construction activity, one-way traffic will also be maintained on the single carriageway between Loha-Palawa Junction, Experia Mall and the Kasa Rio cut. Motorists using the route at night will therefore have to follow the temporary traffic arrangement and allow additional time for the diversion.
Heavy and overdimensional vehicles travelling from Kalyan towards Mumbra and Kalyan Phata will face a separate entry closure at Kartai Chowk, also known as Badlapur Chowk. These vehicles will be diverted through Kartai Chowk, Khoni Naka and Taloja MIDC Road before continuing towards their destinations.
The traffic police said the restrictions were introduced to prevent congestion and ensure the safety and smooth movement of vehicles around the construction zone. The timing of the work means that the diversions will operate during the night while Ganeshotsav-related movement is beginning across the region.
The restrictions will apply during the following seven periods: from 11.30 pm on September 15 to 5 am on September 16; September 16 to September 17; September 17 to September 18; September 18 to September 19; September 19 to September 20; September 20 to September 21; and September 21 to September 22.
Police vehicles, fire brigade vehicles, ambulances and other essential service vehicles will be exempt from the restrictions. The traffic arrangement will remain in force through the final scheduled period on the morning of September 22, when the seven-night girder installation window is due to end.
