Telangana Police’s Women Safety Wing has launched a two-day women’s safety training programme at Osmania University in Hyderabad, with more than 250 faculty members and students set to be trained as facilitators for awareness sessions in educational institutions.
The Training of Trainers programme is being conducted under the #StandWithHer campaign and focuses on consent, gender equality, respectful relationships and women’s safety. Participants include faculty members and students representing degree colleges.
The inaugural session was attended by Osmania University Vice-Chancellor Prof Kumar Molugaram, Telangana Police official Charu Sinha and Asiya Shervani, Head of Training and Content Development at the Women Safety Wing.
Sinha said women’s safety required more than law enforcement and called for a change in social attitudes and everyday behaviour. The programme therefore places emphasis on interpersonal conduct and communication alongside awareness of safety concerns.
Training modules include consent, personal boundaries, empathy, communication, active listening and handling difficult conversations. The participants are expected to use these skills to conduct awareness sessions at their respective institutions.
The programme will be delivered in four batches and is expected to cover over 250 participants. The Women Safety Wing aims to reach more than 2,000 people across educational institutions in Telangana over the next six months through the facilitators trained under the initiative.
At the inauguration, Prof Molugaram highlighted the responsibility of educational institutions in creating safe and inclusive campuses. The programme places colleges and universities in a direct role in extending safety awareness beyond formal police intervention and into campus practices and everyday interactions.
The initiative is structured around a facilitator model, in which a smaller group receives training and then conducts sessions for a wider institutional audience. According to the programme details, the planned outreach will extend across educational institutions in Telangana during the six-month period following the training.
The Women Safety Wing has not announced further operational details on the institutions to be covered or the schedule of the planned awareness sessions. The immediate milestone is the completion of the two-day training programme for the four batches of participants.
