Water Relief Rabindra Sarobar Introduces 6 Feeding Points for Birds, Squirrels

Amidst the scorching heatwave conditions gripping Kolkata, the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) has taken proactive measures to support the local wildlife population at Rabindra Sarobar.

Recognizing the challenge faced by birds, squirrels, and strays in finding water, KMDA has installed six water feeding points across the Rabindra Sarobar premises. These water feeding points consist of earthen pots strategically positioned to provide easy access to birds, squirrels, and strays near the water body. The initiative aims to alleviate the impact of the intense heatwave on the wildlife population frequenting the area. Rabindra Sarobar, known for its diverse bird species and wildlife, attracts a variety of avian and mammalian visitors throughout the year. However, the recent surge in temperatures has made it increasingly challenging for these animals to find adequate water sources.

The earthen pots have been strategically placed at various locations within Rabindra Sarobar, including the ground opposite Menoka Hall, opposite an art gallery, at the C4 ground, opposite the police outpost, and near Ashok Malhotra ground. Additionally, individuals responsible for watering the plants inside the Sarobar have been instructed to regularly refill the bowls to ensure a continuous water supply. These arrangements are expected to remain in place until the intense heatwave conditions subside, providing vital support to the wildlife population during this challenging period. The initiative underscores KMDA’s commitment to environmental stewardship and wildlife welfare, aligning with broader efforts to promote sustainability and biodiversity conservation in urban areas. By providing essential resources such as water, KMDA aims to create a more hospitable environment for wildlife within Rabindra Sarobar, fostering coexistence between humans and nature in the heart of Kolkata.
