The Versova-Bandra Sea Link (VBSL), a pivotal infrastructure project set to bridge the gap between south and north Mumbai, is making significant strides towards completion, with 15 per cent of the civil work already accomplished.
This update, as reported by Indian Express, underscores the project’s momentum and underscores the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation’s (MSRDC) commitment to expediting its delivery. Efforts to bolster the project’s progress include the ongoing piling work for additional piers, complementing the completion of one pier. The strategic deployment of barges at 10 designated locations in the sea further facilitates efficient transportation of raw materials, machinery, and personnel to the construction site, optimising resource allocation and accelerating construction timelines. However, amid these advancements, a notable revision has been made to the project’s completion deadline, extending it to May 2028 from its initial projection of December 2026. This adjustment, while indicative of the project’s complexity and scale, underscores the imperative of meticulous planning and execution to ensure optimal outcomes.
The Versova-Bandra Sea Link Project forms an integral component of the broader Mumbai ‘Sea Link’ initiative, encompassing the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) project, already operational, and the upcoming Versova-Virar Sea Link (VVSL) extension. Conceived to enhance connectivity and alleviate congestion along Mumbai’s western coast, the VBSL project entails the construction of a 9.6 km sea link bridge, equipped with four dispersal points to facilitate seamless vehicular movement. With 4+4 lanes on both sides and tolling facilities, the sea link is poised to significantly enhance intra-city mobility and promote economic vitality. Notably, the project’s length of 17.17 km exceeds thrice that of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, underscoring its status as a transformative infrastructure endeavour.
To oversee the seamless execution of the VBSL project, the Maharashtra State Government has entrusted the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation with the role of nodal agency, underscoring the collaborative efforts underway to realise Mumbai’s infrastructural vision. Despite the revised timeline, stakeholders remain steadfast in their commitment to delivering the VBSL project with uncompromising quality and efficiency. As Mumbai’s urban landscape evolves, the VBSL project stands as a testament to proactive governance and strategic investment in infrastructure, poised to redefine the city’s connectivity and propel its growth trajectory into the future.
