Hyderabad Traffic Diversions Set For Darussalam Jalsa
HYDERABAD: Traffic movement around Darussalam will be restricted from Tuesday evening as Hyderabad prepares for a Milad-un-Nabi Jalsa. The diversions, scheduled from 6 pm on August 25 to 4 am on August 26, are intended to manage vehicle movement around the event venue and limit congestion on surrounding roads.
The restrictions will affect several approaches to Darussalam, making route planning important for commuters travelling through the old-city corridor during the evening and overnight hours. Vehicles approaching Darussalam Road from Malakunta and Begum Bazar Chatri will be diverted at Alaska T-Junction towards MJ Bridge and MJ Market. Traffic from Mallepally X Road, Boiguda Kaman and Mangalhat will be redirected at Aghapura X Road towards Takkarwadi and Charminar. Other diversions will operate at Ek Minar, Aghapura Junction and Mallepally X Road. Vehicles coming from Bazar Ghat and Taj Island towards Darussalam will be directed towards Bazar Ghat and Nampally Railway Station Road. Traffic from Seetharambagh and Mangalhat will be diverted towards Charkandil, while vehicles approaching from Mehdipatnam and Asifnagar will be sent towards Gokul Nagar and Bazar Ghat.
The scale of the diversions reflects the pressure that large public gatherings can place on already busy urban roads. Temporary traffic management is therefore not only about moving vehicles around the venue. It also needs to preserve access for residents, public transport, pedestrians and emergency services. Parking arrangements have been designated for visitors attending the programme. Four-wheelers can use the Government Dispensary Hospital in Seetharam Bagh and Rocket Ground. Parking for two-wheelers has been identified at Agha Dargah, Sardar Baig Dargah, Pan Mandi Road and SBI Road. For residents and daily commuters, the main concern will be the knock-on effect on connecting roads. Vehicles diverted from one corridor can increase pressure on neighbouring streets, particularly during peak evening movement.
The traffic police have advised motorists who do not need to travel through the affected area to choose alternative routes. Those attending the Jalsa have also been asked to use designated parking areas and follow instructions from traffic personnel. The arrangements are temporary, but they highlight a wider urban mobility issue for Hyderabad: major gatherings require traffic plans that account not only for vehicle flow but also for neighbourhood access, pedestrian movement and efficient use of limited road space.
