The layout plan and related records of Ahmedabad’s Abjibapa Lake View housing society in Vastral are reportedly missing from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation records, while residents allege that construction has blocked two of the society’s three original access gates.
The society, located near Ratanpura Lake, was built in 2013 and handed over to residents in 2015. It has around 412 homes and more than 1,600 residents, according to the report. Residents say the complex originally had three gates, but only one is currently available for use.
A resident, Ghanshyambhai Rathod, told Divya Bhaskar that the two other gate locations were initially closed with walls and later used for shops. Residents subsequently sought the approved layout plan and other construction-related records from the civic body. According to Rathod, an RTI response received after four months stated that the municipal department did not have the layout plan and that the main file could not be found.
The missing records have raised questions over the approval and enforcement history of the construction at the two gate locations. Residents also say that the availability of only one gate could create difficulties during an emergency involving the society’s more than 1,600 occupants. The report does not establish that an emergency has occurred or that the construction has been legally adjudicated as unauthorised.
Residents further alleged that the AMC had earlier arrived with a JCB to remove the shops but stopped after carrying out limited demolition work. Rathod questioned why the civic body had previously intervened if, as he says residents were later told, a High Court order prevented it from becoming involved in internal society matters. The existence and applicability of the cited court order were not independently established in the supplied report.
AMC officials said they were not aware of the matter and would examine it. Vinay Gupta, an officer in the AMC’s East Zone estate department, told Divya Bhaskar that he would check the layout plan and related records. BJP corporator Meet Prajapati said no representation had reached him but that he would arrange an inquiry. Another corporator, Paresh Patel, did not respond to the publication’s calls.
Some unnamed residents also alleged that a local influential person had intervened during an earlier demolition attempt and that municipal personnel had visited the site around 15 days before the report. These allegations were not independently confirmed and no specific transaction was established in the supplied material. The immediate official step is the AMC’s proposed examination of the society’s layout plan, records and the disputed construction.
