Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), three prominent civil engineering firms have stepped up to bid for the construction of the corporation’s new Metro Bhawan headquarters in Lucknow. This follows the opening of technical bids for Package LKCC-15, marking a crucial milestone in UPMRC’s expansion plans and infrastructure development initiatives.
The decision to construct a new Metro Bhawan underscores UPMRC’s evolving requirements as it expands its metro operations across Uttar Pradesh. Currently housed in a modest building at Ambedkar Park, the corporation’s need for a larger and more modern office space has become apparent with the operationalization of metro systems in Lucknow, Kanpur, and Agra, as well as upcoming projects in the pipeline.
The proposed Metro Bhawan will be strategically situated near the Sachivalaya Station on the Lucknow Metro network, providing a centralized and convenient location for UPMRC’s administrative and operational functions. Notably, it will also accommodate the Operational Control Centre (OCC) for the Lucknow Metro, ensuring efficient management and coordination of train operations along Line-1.
The bidding process for the construction of the new Metro Bhawan commenced in March 2024, with an estimated budget of Rs. 120.80 crore and a completion deadline of 600 days. Among the firms vying for the project are KSM Bashir Mohammad and Sons, Lisha Engineers Pvt. Ltd., and Quality Buildcon Pvt. Ltd., all renowned for their expertise in civil engineering and metro rail infrastructure projects across North India. The scope of work for the selected bidder includes the design and construction of the Metro Bhawan cum OCC Building, encompassing various structural, architectural, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical works. This comprehensive approach reflects the critical role that the new headquarters will play in supporting UPMRC’s expanding metro operations and ensuring seamless service delivery.
Following the submission of technical bids, the evaluation process is currently underway, with the anticipation of revealing the lowest bidder and potential contractor for the project. Once finalized, the new Metro Bhawan will not only serve as a hub for administrative and operational activities but also lay the foundation for future expansions and enhancements to UPMRC’s metro network across Uttar Pradesh.
The active participation of experienced firms in the bidding process underscores the industry’s confidence in UPMRC’s vision and the strategic importance of the new Metro Bhawan project. As construction progresses, the headquarters will emerge as a symbol of UPMRC’s commitment to excellence and innovation in the realm of urban transportation infrastructure.
