Thane Voter Registration Opens for New Electors in October Camps

Thane district will hold special voter registration camps on October 3, 4, 10 and 11, giving eligible first-time voters and other residents an opportunity to add, correct or remove names from the electoral roll before the October 12 deadline, according to a report by Loksatta – Thane.

The opportunity is available to citizens who completed 18 years of age on or before October 1, 2026, under the revised schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) programme. Citizens whose names were not included in the draft electoral roll can also apply for inclusion during the claims and objections period.

The revised schedule was announced following directions issued by the Election Commission of India on September 26, 2026. The period for filing claims and objections has been set from August 31 to October 12, 2026. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 16, 2026.

The registration window covers more than new voters. Eligible residents can apply to correct entries in the electoral roll or request the deletion of a name where required. The district administration has also extended the opportunity to citizens whose names were left out of the draft roll because they were absent, had moved or for other reasons.

The revision is significant for residents who became eligible to vote after the previous electoral-roll survey conducted after October 2024. According to the report, several citizens who completed 18 years after October 1, 2024, had not been able to register their names during the earlier process. Those who had completed 18 years by October 1, 2026, can now seek inclusion under the special campaign.

The provision for residents who have moved is based on their current ordinary place of residence. This is relevant to Thane district, where residents may change addresses for work, education, rental housing or other reasons, although the report does not provide a district-wise figure for omitted or newly eligible voters.

The October camps are intended to provide an additional in-person opportunity during the claims and objections period. Citizens seeking inclusion, correction or deletion will need to submit their applications within the revised deadline of October 12. The report does not specify the individual camp venues or operating hours.

The next formal milestone in the process is the publication of the final electoral roll on November 16, 2026, after the claims and objections period closes.
