Telangana Rain Alert: Red Warning Issued for 3 Districts

The Telangana rain alert has intensified, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas on October 28 and issuing a red alert for Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam districts. The warning follows a prolonged dry spell and comes as a weather system develops over the Bay of Bengal.

According to the IMD Hyderabad forecast issued on Sunday, rainfall activity is expected to increase across the State from Tuesday, October 27. Heavy rain is likely at isolated places on October 27, while extremely heavy rainfall is forecast in isolated areas on October 28. Heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also expected in parts of Telangana as the system approaches the Andhra Pradesh coast.

The red alert covers Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places on October 28. The IMD has also warned that some locations in these districts could receive extremely heavy downpours.

An orange alert has been issued for Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Mahabubabad and Suryapet. These districts may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Other parts of Telangana may also receive heavy rain during the forecast period.

The warning is significant for eastern Telangana districts, where intense rainfall over a short period can place pressure on local roads, drainage systems and daily movement. The source forecast does not specify particular roads, neighbourhoods or public services likely to be affected, but the combination of heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds creates a need for residents to follow official advisories as conditions evolve.

The IMD has forecast further heavy rainfall at isolated places on October 29, along with thunderstorms and lightning in parts of the State. This extends the period of heightened weather risk beyond the initial spell expected from Tuesday to Wednesday.

The forecast is based on a developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal. The IMD said rainfall warnings may be updated as the system develops, making the latest official bulletins important for residents, local administrations and people travelling through the affected districts.

Residents, particularly those in eastern Telangana, have been advised to monitor official weather updates. The immediate official milestones are the rainfall forecast for October 27 and the red-alert period on October 28, followed by the IMD’s assessment of conditions on October 29.
