The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast intense rainfall in Telangana from October 27, with Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam placed under a red alert for October 28 as a weather system develops over the Bay of Bengal.
According to the IMD Hyderabad forecast cited by Telangana Today, rainfall activity is expected to increase across the State from Tuesday, October 27, after a prolonged dry spell. Heavy rain is likely at isolated places on October 27, while extremely heavy rainfall is forecast in isolated areas on October 28.
The red alert districts are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy downpours on October 28. The forecast covers parts of eastern Telangana, where intense rainfall could affect road movement, local access and the functioning of public infrastructure in vulnerable areas.
The IMD has also issued an orange alert for Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Mahabubabad and Suryapet. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in these districts. Other parts of Telangana may also receive heavy rain, according to the forecast.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely in parts of the State as the weather system approaches the Andhra Pradesh coast. The IMD has warned that rainfall will continue on October 29, when heavy rain is expected at isolated places along with thunderstorms and lightning in parts of Telangana.
The forecast comes after a prolonged dry spell and points to a sharp change in weather conditions over a short period. For residents and local administrations, the shift from dry conditions to intense rainfall raises immediate operational requirements around public alerts, road access and the monitoring of areas exposed to water accumulation. The supplied forecast does not provide district-specific rainfall totals or details of any government preparedness measures.
Residents, particularly those in eastern Telangana districts, have been advised to monitor official weather bulletins as the system develops. The IMD has indicated that rainfall warnings may be updated as the weather system moves closer to the coast and its impact becomes clearer.
