IMD Telangana Rain Forecast: Red Alert Issued for 3 Districts

The IMD Telangana rain forecast has placed Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam under a red alert for October 28, with extremely heavy rainfall expected in isolated areas as a weather system develops over the Bay of Bengal.

The India Meteorological Department’s Hyderabad office said rainfall activity is likely to increase across the State from Tuesday, October 27, after a prolonged dry spell. Heavy rain is expected at isolated places on Tuesday, while the most intense conditions are forecast for Wednesday.

The red alert covers areas where heavy to very heavy rainfall, including isolated extremely heavy downpours, is likely on October 28. The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds as the weather system approaches the Andhra Pradesh coast.

An orange alert has been issued for Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Mahabubabad and Suryapet districts. These areas are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on October 28. Other districts in Telangana may also receive heavy rain, according to the forecast.

The weather system is expected to produce continuing unsettled conditions on October 29. The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places, along with thunderstorms and lightning in parts of the State. The department’s warning covers a period when sudden downpours and gusty winds could affect road travel, outdoor activity and local services in the districts under alert.

The district-level warnings are particularly relevant for eastern Telangana, where Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mahabubabad and neighbouring areas have been identified in the alert categories. The forecast does not indicate that every location within these districts will receive extreme rainfall, as the warning refers to isolated areas.

The IMD said residents should monitor official weather bulletins as the system develops because rainfall warnings may be updated. Local authorities and residents in the red- and orange-alert districts will need to follow subsequent advisories on thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds and heavy rain through October 29.
