Surat SOG Arrests Nine Quacks in Dindoli, Seizes Medicines Worth Rs 95,138

Surat police and the district health department arrested nine people accused of practising medicine without recognised qualifications during raids at clinics in Dindoli on Thursday, seizing allopathic medicines and medical equipment valued at Rs 95,138.

The action was carried out by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Surat city police in coordination with health officials. According to officials, the teams conducted simultaneous raids at several establishments after receiving specific information about unauthorised medical practice in the area.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Rohit Patil, Parmanand Patel, Aarti Maurya, Mahesh Rajput, Kamalaprasad Gond, Sopan Patil, Manoharlal Kumawat, Dinesh Bharti and Kishor Vishwas.

Officials said the accused were treating patients despite not possessing the required recognised medical qualifications. Some of them had previously worked as hospital compounders or nurses before opening clinics of their own, according to the information provided by the authorities.

During the raids, officials seized medicines, injections, syrups and medical equipment. The total value of the seized material was assessed at Rs 95,138. The operation targeted establishments where people were allegedly providing medical treatment without the qualifications required to do so.

Cases have been registered against all nine accused at Dindoli police station. The police action is being accompanied by separate proceedings from the district health department under the Clinical Establishments Act.

The raids highlight the role of coordination between local law enforcement and health authorities in addressing unregistered medical activity in expanding urban areas. For residents, the immediate issue is whether clinics providing treatment are staffed by practitioners with recognised qualifications and whether medicines and procedures are being administered under the required regulatory framework.

The health department’s separate proceedings will determine the regulatory action against the establishments and individuals involved. Police cases registered at Dindoli station will proceed independently under the applicable law.
