STRR Hoskote-Hosur Stretch May Open Partly by December

The 21-km Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) stretch between Hoskote and the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border may partially open by December, with the National Highways Authority of India planning diversions around an unfinished railway overbridge at Lingadeeramallasandra.

The phased access plan is intended to allow vehicles to use completed portions of the road while construction continues on the railway overbridge across the Bengaluru-Chennai railway line. The bridge remains the key unfinished component on the Hoskote–Tamil Nadu border section, and its completion is expected to continue until March 2027.

The NHAI plans to launch a 59-metre girder on the carriageway carrying traffic from Hoskote towards Hosur by December. The girder for the opposite carriageway, carrying traffic towards Hoskote, is expected to be launched by March. The launches have been delayed by more than one and a half years, holding up completion of the highway despite substantial progress on the rest of the stretch.

A senior NHAI official said the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), which inspected the site, had made observations that have since been addressed. “RDSO will conduct another inspection. Once necessary clearances are obtained, the 59-metre girder will be launched across the railway line,” the official said.

Under the proposed traffic arrangement, vehicles would be diverted around the railway overbridge construction site and allowed to use available carriageways beyond it. This would provide access to much of the 21-km route before the overbridge is fully completed. The final traffic arrangement will depend on the required clearances and the execution of the diversions around the work site.

The Hoskote–Tamil Nadu border section is a significant link in the STRR network, which is designed to improve connections between satellite towns around Bengaluru. At the state border, the road connects with a 36-km ring road extending towards Belagondapalli in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district and onward to Hosur.

Once operational, the route will provide motorists and freight operators travelling between Hoskote and Hosur with a more direct connection. It is also expected to improve links towards Devanahalli, Doddaballapura and Tumakuru Road by enabling traffic to move around Bengaluru’s built-up areas.

The immediate milestone is the second RDSO inspection and the clearances required before the first 59-metre girder can be launched. NHAI’s proposed December opening will therefore depend on the approval process and the feasibility of safely diverting traffic around the continuing railway overbridge construction.
