Multiple SpiceJet flights at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport were cancelled or significantly delayed on September 19 because of operational disruptions, affecting scores of passengers and leaving airport teams to coordinate assistance for those impacted.
Delhi Airport confirmed the disruption in a statement posted on X, saying its teams were working with SpiceJet and other relevant stakeholders to support passengers and help normalise operations. The airport did not specify how many flights had been cancelled or delayed, nor did it provide a timeline for a full restoration of services.
“We regret the inconvenience faced by passengers due to the operational disruption of some SpiceJet flights,” Delhi Airport said. “Delhi Airport teams are actively coordinating with the airline and relevant stakeholders to support affected passengers and provide necessary assistance to help normalise the situation.”
Airport staff were present at the terminal to assist passengers affected by the cancellations and delays. The airport advised travellers to seek the latest information directly from the concerned airline or from on-ground airport teams before proceeding with their journeys.
The disruption placed the immediate responsibility for passenger communication and assistance on both the airline and the airport operator. While the airport said it was coordinating with SpiceJet, the airline had not issued a statement on the operational problems as of the publication of the report.
The airport also appealed to passengers for patience and cooperation while flight operations were being managed. “For the latest flight updates, please contact the concerned airline or seek assistance from our on-ground teams,” it said.
The incident highlights the operational dependence between airlines and airport authorities during flight disruptions. At a major gateway such as Delhi airport, cancellations and extended delays can affect connecting journeys, terminal movement and passenger assistance requirements, although the available information did not provide details on the wider operational impact.
The airport’s statement did not identify the specific cause of the disruption, the affected routes or the expected time of recovery. Passengers travelling on SpiceJet were asked to obtain updated flight information from the airline or airport staff before making further travel arrangements.
