Safety and Cleanliness Prioritised for Ganesh Immersion

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has ramped up its preparations for the upcoming Ganesh immersion festivities. Under the directives of GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, officials have been instructed to ensure that all designated immersion sites are fully equipped with essential facilities to handle the influx of devotees expected during the event.

During an extensive inspection on 30th August, the Mayor visited several immersion sites in the Kukatpally zone, including Hasmathpet Lake, Pragathi Nagar Pond, IDL Lake, and Lingam Pond. The Mayor emphasised the importance of stringent safety protocols to avoid any untoward incidents during the immersion process. The GHMC has been directed to provide adequate lighting, ensure an uninterrupted power supply, and install mobile toilets to cater to the needs of the devotees. Additionally, effective sanitation management has been highlighted as a key area of focus to maintain cleanliness around the immersion sites.

The Mayor further stressed the need for prompt removal of the immersed Ganesh idols and demanded swift action for the cleanup of floating debris from the water bodies. This initiative is aimed at preventing any environmental damage and maintaining the ecological balance of the city’s water bodies. The GHMC has also been tasked with ensuring that these actions are carried out efficiently to avoid any accumulation of waste in the ponds and lakes. Expressing her dissatisfaction over the absence of officials from the police and power departments during the inspection, Mayor Gadwal issued a stern warning against negligence. She emphasised the need for a coordinated effort between various departments to ensure the smooth conduct of the Ganesh immersion ceremony, which is a significant cultural event in Hyderabad.

In addition to her focus on the immersion sites, the Mayor also inspected other ongoing development projects in the city. This includes the construction of a box culvert near the Amma Bhagavan Temple and the development of a football ground in Mangapuram Colony. Mayor Gadwal urged the concerned officials to expedite these works to enhance the city’s infrastructure and meet the needs of the local communities. The GHMC’s proactive approach in preparing for the Ganesh immersion underscores its commitment to managing public events efficiently while ensuring the safety and convenience of the citizens. The Mayor’s directives aim to facilitate a seamless and environmentally responsible celebration of the festival, reflecting the city’s dedication to preserving its cultural traditions while maintaining civic order.
