RUVITL Initiates an Ambitious Expansion Drive with Coal and Solar Projects

Rajasthan Urja Vikas and IT Services Limited (RUVITL) have embarked on a comprehensive expansion endeavor, unveiling plans to procure an additional 3,200 MW of coal-based power and 8,000 MW of solar power to address the burgeoning electricity demand within the state.

This strategic initiative underscores RUVITL’s proactive stance in bolstering energy infrastructure to ensure resource adequacy and meet evolving consumer needs. The impetus for this ambitious undertaking stems from the imperative of resource adequacy, as stipulated by guidelines from the Ministry of Power and the Central Electricity Authority. These directives underscore the critical importance of maintaining sufficient capacity to reliably cater to projected consumer demand, thereby obviating the need for disruptive load shedding practices. In a bid to mitigate challenges stemming from aging power stations and coal supply constraints, RUVITL has secured a coal linkage for 3,299 MW, aligning with the SHAKTI Policy guidelines instituted by the Ministry of Coal. This policy framework facilitates coal allocation for new Power Purchase Agreements, thereby bolstering the viability of coal-based power projects within the state.

The envisaged coal-based power projects will be developed under a design, build, finance, own, and operate model, offering flexibility in site selection within Rajasthan. Furthermore, developers will be tasked with establishing dedicated transmission infrastructure, ensuring seamless integration with the state transmission grid. Simultaneously, RUVITL is poised to fulfill the renewable purchase obligation targets set forth by the Ministry of Power through the procurement of 8,000 MW of solar capacity. This initiative aligns with the national imperative to augment energy procurement from renewable sources, in line with long-term sustainability goals. The procurement process will be streamlined through a single tender, compelling participants to offer both coal and solar-based capacities. Subsequent to the e-reverse auction, power purchase agreements for solar and coal-based power will be executed separately, with tariffs determined competitively.

RUVITL’s multi-faceted approach to energy expansion underscores its commitment to driving sustainable growth and fostering energy security within Rajasthan. By embracing diverse energy sources and leveraging competitive procurement mechanisms, RUVITL sets a precedent for proactive infrastructure development, poised to propel the state towards a greener, more resilient energy future.
