Vasai-Virar Municipal Commissioner Prithviraj B.P. inspected Rajodi Beach in Nalasopara West and directed officials to strengthen cleanliness, visitor safety and basic facilities as the civic administration works to develop the city’s beaches for tourism.
During the inspection, the commissioner reviewed the operation of the beach-cleaning machine and instructed officials to ensure regular waste collection, install dustbins and arrange proper disposal of garbage. The administration also discussed establishing a watchtower, emergency-response systems and public toilets for visitors.
The Vasai-Virar region has several beaches, including Arnala, Suruchi, Bhuigaon, Rangao, Navapur and Kalamb. The beaches attract visitors but several have faced persistent cleanliness concerns. The civic body had earlier purchased a beach-cleaning machine using funds from the 15th Finance Commission, at a reported cost of Rs 67 lakh. Questions had subsequently been raised about beach maintenance because the machine was frequently reported to be non-operational.
The inspection followed approval of a proposal at a recent general body meeting concerning cleanliness and security arrangements at the city’s beaches. Officials also discussed organised parking facilities in response to the increasing number of vehicles, along with measures to improve the surrounding area.
Additional Commissioner Sanjay Herwade, Assistant Commissioner Jitendra Naik, the chief health inspector and sanitation workers were present during the visit. The commissioner also spoke with local residents and tourists to understand their needs and complaints. The administration said it would take necessary action based on the feedback received.
The civic administration said it would continue to focus on developing clean and safe beaches to strengthen Vasai-Virar’s tourism identity. The commissioner urged residents and visitors to support efforts to keep the coastline free of plastic and protect the local environment.
