The Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation has begun reviewing cleanliness, safety and visitor facilities at Rajodi Beach in Nalasopara West, with Municipal Commissioner Prithviraj B. P. conducting an inspection and directing officials to strengthen waste collection and basic amenities.
The inspection took place on Saturday as part of the civic administration’s plan to develop Vasai-Virar’s beaches as tourism destinations. During the visit, the commissioner reviewed the operation of the beach-cleaning machine, the condition of the shoreline and the facilities available to tourists and local residents.
Officials were instructed to ensure regular waste collection, install dustbins and arrange for the proper disposal of waste. The administration also discussed measures to improve security at the beach, including the construction of a watchtower and the provision of emergency-response facilities and public toilets.
Parking was another issue raised during the inspection. The civic administration is considering organised parking facilities in response to the increasing number of vehicles visiting the area. Officials were also directed to examine beautification measures for the surrounding area.
Vasai-Virar has several beaches, including Arnala, Suruchi, Bhuigaon, Rangao, Navapur and Kalamb. The beaches attract visitors but several locations have faced complaints related to poor cleanliness. The municipal corporation had earlier purchased a beach-cleaning machine using funds from the 15th Finance Commission. The machine was procured at a cost of Rs 67 lakh, but its repeated periods of non-operation had raised questions about shoreline maintenance.
A proposal concerning beach cleanliness and security arrangements in the city was recently approved at a general body meeting of the municipal corporation. The commissioner’s inspection was conducted against that administrative background and included a review of how the existing cleaning equipment was functioning.
During the visit, Prithviraj B. P. also spoke with local residents and tourists to understand their difficulties, requirements and feedback. The administration said that necessary action would be taken based on the suggestions received during these interactions.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Herwade, Assistant Commissioner Jitendra Naik, the chief health inspector and sanitation workers were present during the inspection. The commissioner appealed to residents and visitors to cooperate with the administration in keeping the beach free of plastic and protecting the coastal environment.
The municipal administration said it would continue focusing on clean and safe beaches as part of efforts to strengthen Vasai-Virar’s tourism identity.
