Railway Travel Insurance Now Available at SCR Counters for 45 Paise

South Central Railway has extended optional railway travel insurance to passengers booking reserved tickets at railway reservation counters, with the facility available from October 27, 2026, for a premium of 45 paise per passenger.

The facility is available to passengers booking reserved tickets through SCR’s reservation counters, according to information reported by Deccan Chronicle. Passengers must make the booking payment digitally to avail themselves of the insurance option.

South Central Railway said insurance details will be sent to the passenger’s registered mobile number. The railway did not provide further details in the reported announcement about the coverage limits, exclusions, claim process or the insurer administering the facility.

The option is not described as mandatory. Passengers can choose whether to take the insurance while booking a reserved ticket at a reservation counter. The premium has been set at ₹0.45 per passenger.

The extension brings the facility to counter-based reserved-ticket bookings, adding to the digital processes linked to railway ticketing and passenger services. For passengers, the immediate requirement is access to digital payment and a registered mobile number for receiving the insurance information.

The announcement comes as railway reservation services continue to combine physical booking channels with digital payment and mobile-based communication. In this case, the reservation counter remains the booking point, while payment and delivery of insurance details depend on digital systems.

South Central Railway said the facility is intended to provide passengers with additional financial protection during train journeys. Passengers considering the option will need to review the insurance information sent to their registered mobile number for the terms and conditions applicable to their booking.
