AMC Opens 2027-28 Budget to Citizen Inputs Until October 30

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has begun preparations for its 2027-28 annual budget and is inviting residents to submit suggestions on civic services and development works until October 30. The budget is expected to be presented in February 2027.

Residents can email their suggestions to amcbudget2728@gmail.com. Submissions must include the sender’s name, mobile number and email address. The civic body has asked citizens to identify infrastructure needs in their areas and point out where existing services require improvement.

The consultation covers roads, water supply, drainage, street lighting, cleanliness, gardens and other development-related works. Residents may also suggest new facilities or improvements to existing ones based on the needs of their neighbourhoods.

Ahmedabad mayor Hitesh Barot and standing committee chairman Kamlesh Patel said the corporation seeks public suggestions every year before preparing its budget. They said the submissions would be reviewed and that suitable issues would be considered for inclusion in the next financial year’s budget plan.

The early start to the process comes around four months before the expected February presentation of the 2027-28 budget. It gives residents a defined window to place local service issues before the corporation while departmental and budgetary planning is under way.

According to the report, the AMC had invited similar suggestions in previous budget cycles. Around 10 per cent of the suggestions received earlier were accepted and included in the budget, while some other submissions were addressed through complaints or routine work by the relevant civic departments.

Last year, residents’ submissions primarily sought improvements to water, drainage and roads. Other requests included community halls, party plots, libraries, reading rooms, gardens, swimming pools and senior citizens’ parks. These demands indicate that the consultation is intended to cover both basic municipal services and neighbourhood-level public amenities.

The process also places the emphasis on how civic priorities are filtered after suggestions are received. The corporation has said that appropriate issues will be considered for the budget, but the announcement does not specify the criteria for selection, the number of submissions expected or how residents will be informed about the status of their requests.

For residents submitting proposals, providing a specific location and describing the service gap can help the corporation identify the relevant area and department. The AMC’s stated deadline for receiving suggestions is October 30, after which the submissions are expected to feed into preparations for the 2027-28 budget to be presented in February 2027.
