Dhruv Consultancy Services Limited (DCSL) has been awarded a pivotal consultancy project by the Indian Port Rail & Ropeway Corporation Limited (IPRCL).
The mandate encompasses comprehensive advisory services for the development of a new railway line integral to the Rohne Coal Block. This undertaking is a crucial component of the Government of India’s ambitious SAGARMALA initiative, a strategic program aimed at enhancing port connectivity and fostering efficient, multi-modal transportation networks across the nation’s coastline and hinterland. Dhruv Consultancy’s responsibilities under this contract, valued at Rs 1.94 Cr (excluding GST) and slated for completion within 37 weeks, will span the entire project lifecycle from inception to detailed planning. This includes meticulous route alignment studies, in-depth engineering surveys to assess the terrain and potential environmental impacts, and the critical preparation of key project documents such as the Feasibility Study Report and the Detailed Project Report (DPR). These reports serve as the foundational blueprints for the railway line, outlining its technical specifications, economic viability, and environmental considerations.
The SAGARMALA initiative, of which this railway project is a vital cog, has a strong emphasis on promoting sustainable and efficient logistics. By enhancing rail connectivity to ports, the initiative aims to reduce the reliance on carbon-intensive road transport for freight movement. Railways offer a significantly lower carbon footprint per tonne-kilometre compared to roadways, making this project a crucial step towards achieving a greener and more environmentally responsible transportation ecosystem. The development of dedicated freight corridors and improved rail infrastructure around ports can lead to substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with India’s commitment to a zero net carbon future. Furthermore, efficient port-rail connectivity has profound implications for economic growth and equitable development. Streamlined logistics translate to lower transportation costs for businesses, enhancing their competitiveness and facilitating smoother trade flows. This can spur industrial growth in regions connected by the railway line, creating employment opportunities and fostering economic prosperity in both urban and rural areas. Improved connectivity also enhances access to markets for agricultural produce and other goods, potentially benefiting smaller enterprises and contributing to a more inclusive economic landscape.
The involvement of Dhruv Consultancy, under the leadership of Managing Director Mrs. Tanvi Dandawate Auti, underscores the growing expertise and capacity within India’s infrastructure consultancy sector to contribute to large-scale, nationally significant projects. Mrs. Auti’s enthusiasm for the project highlights the alignment of Dhruv Consultancy’s strategic objectives with the national agenda of infrastructure development and its commitment to expanding its footprint in the railway consultancy domain. Ensuring that the railway line is developed in an eco-sensitive manner, minimizing disruption to local ecosystems and communities, will be crucial for its long-term sustainability and social acceptance. Incorporating gender-neutral employment practices during the construction and operation phases will also contribute to the project’s broader societal benefits.
The successful completion of this railway line under the SAGARMALA initiative holds the potential to significantly enhance the efficiency and sustainability of India’s logistics sector. By providing a cleaner and more cost-effective mode of freight transport, it will contribute to environmental goals, spur economic growth, and foster more equitable regional development. The project serves as a tangible example of how strategic infrastructure investments can drive both economic progress and environmental sustainability, paving the way for a more resilient and eco-conscious future for India’s transportation network.
