Pune PMP Bus Crash Injures Eight After Striking Bus Stop

A Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus crashed into the Ahilyadevi bus stop on the Pune-Satara Road BRT corridor on Tuesday afternoon, injuring eight passengers, including two who were reported to be in serious condition.

The crash occurred near Shankar Maharaj Math in Dhankawadi while the bus was travelling from Kothrud to Katraj. According to police information cited by Lokmat, the driver saw an elderly woman approaching from the front through the BRT route and applied the brakes to avoid her.

The driver then lost control of the bus, which collided with the bus stop. The eight injured passengers included five women and three men. Some passengers lost teeth or suffered injuries to their lips, according to the report. The injured were taken to hospital for treatment, with two reported to be in serious condition.

Passengers waiting at the bus stop were not injured in the collision. The incident nevertheless disrupted a busy public transport corridor serving southern Pune and raised an immediate safety concern involving bus operations, pedestrian movement and the design and management of BRT spaces.

Officials from the Sahakarnagar police station took the driver and conductor into custody after the crash. Police were working late into the night to register a case, the report said. The source did not provide the names of the injured passengers, the driver or the conductor.

The account places the crash within the BRT section of Pune-Satara Road, where buses operate in a designated corridor alongside pedestrian activity near stops and surrounding roads. In this case, the reported attempt to avoid an elderly pedestrian preceded the loss of vehicle control and the impact with the stop.

The immediate response includes medical treatment for the injured and police action against the bus crew. Further details on the case, the driver’s account, the condition of the two seriously injured passengers and any transport-department inquiry were not available in the supplied report.
