The PMPML senior citizen discount will reduce regular bus ticket fares by 50% for passengers aged 60 and above from November 1, with the concession applying across all routes operated by the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority areas.
The decision was approved by the PMPML board of directors and will apply to daily tickets. It will operate alongside the existing concession on daily passes for senior citizens. PMPML officials said the measure is intended to make bus travel more affordable and encourage greater use of public transport among older residents.
Senior citizens already have access to a discounted PMPML daily pass priced at Rs 35, compared with the regular price of Rs 70. The new decision extends the concession to regular bus tickets purchased for individual journeys, covering all routes operated by the transport body.
Passengers seeking the discount will have to carry valid proof of age and show it to the conductor while purchasing or using the ticket. Documents accepted by PMPML include an Aadhaar card, PAN card or a PMPML senior citizen identity card.
The identity document must include the passenger’s complete date of birth, including the day, month and year. Passengers whose documents do not show the full date of birth may not be able to establish that they meet the minimum age requirement of 60 years.
PMPML operates around 1,800 buses across Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad and areas under the PMRDA. The concession therefore applies across a large regional bus network serving residents travelling between the three urban jurisdictions.
The fare decision comes as public transport affordability remains directly linked to access for residents who depend on buses for routine travel. For senior citizens, the requirement to carry age proof will make documentation an important part of using the benefit from its start date.
PMPML has urged eligible passengers to make greater use of its bus services after the concession takes effect. The transport body’s existing senior citizen pass concession will continue in addition to the 50% reduction on regular tickets.
