The MHADA Pune housing lottery has received a record 3,25,077 applications for 4,462 homes, underlining the scale of demand for comparatively affordable housing across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and the wider Pune Metropolitan Region. MHADA officials said 2,73,974 applicants paid the required deposit and will participate in the draw, which is scheduled for the first week of December.
The latest response is the highest recorded for any lottery conducted by the Pune Board of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority. The previous draw, held in February, received 2,15,847 applications. The latest figure is therefore about 58,000 higher than the earlier record, according to the report by Lokmat – Pune.
The housing inventory was offered under MHADA’s 15 per cent Social Housing and 20 per cent Inclusive Housing schemes. The advertisement for the draw was published on August 24. Of the 4,462 homes, 1,468 are located within the Pune Municipal Corporation area, 1,406 within the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area and 1,588 in the PMRDA region.
The draw also includes 558 homes that remained un allotted in the previous two lotteries. The inclusion of these units expands the current inventory, but the application numbers show that demand remains far greater than the supply available through the scheme. The response covers applicants seeking homes across the three major administrative areas that form Pune’s wider urban housing market.
Each application required a fee of Rs 708 and an earnest-money deposit of Rs 20,000. The report states that applicants who paid the deposit contributed about Rs 564 crore to MHADA. It gives two slightly different totals for the amount collected—Rs 564.08 crore in one section and Rs 564.09 crore in another—while the number of paid applications is consistently reported as 2,73,974. The precise collection figure will need to be read against MHADA’s official records.
The distinction between total applications and paid applications is significant for the draw. Although 3,25,077 people submitted applications, only those who completed the deposit payment process are reported to have entered the actual lottery. The final number of eligible applicants will be determined after MHADA completes scrutiny of the submissions.
MHADA will next publish a draft list of accepted applications. Applicants will be allowed to submit claims and objections against that list before the authority issues the final accepted-applicant list. The successful applicants are expected to be announced on the day of the draw, with their names scheduled to be published at 6 pm during the first week of December.
