Traffic movement on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway was severely disrupted after a heavy vehicle carrying iron plates lost part of its load on the Pune-bound carriageway near the Amrutanjan Bridge ghat section. The incident, followed by a mechanical failure of the same truck, created an extended traffic backlog stretching several kilometres, highlighting the operational challenges of managing freight movement on one of India’s busiest intercity transport corridors.

The disruption began during the early hours when iron plates slipped from the truck while it was negotiating the uphill ghat stretch. The scattered cargo obstructed one of the carriageway lanes, prompting authorities to temporarily restrict traffic while emergency teams cleared the roadway. Although two lanes remained operational, the reduced road capacity quickly resulted in long queues of vehicles, particularly as freight traffic increased during the morning hours. Recovery efforts faced an additional setback after the truck suffered a mechanical breakdown shortly after the cargo was removed. The disabled vehicle occupied another traffic lane, further reducing road capacity and slowing vehicle movement through the mountainous section. Normal traffic flow gradually resumed after the damaged truck was removed and all lanes were reopened.
