Pune Airport Bomb Threat Ends in Hoax as Police Trace Caller

Pune airport police have registered a case against an unidentified caller who threatened a bomb attack at the airport, after a search by the bomb detection and disposal squad found nothing suspicious.

The caller contacted the police control room at around 7 am on Thursday and claimed that Pune airport would be attacked with bombs, senior inspector Govind Jadhav told the Times of India. The police control room later forwarded the information to the Airport police station.

Airport police and the bomb detection and disposal squad scanned the entire airport after receiving the alert. Jadhav said the search did not identify any suspicious object and described the call as a hoax.

According to the police, neither airport officials nor airline companies received the threat directly. The alert reached the airport police through the police control room, which had received the call from the unidentified person.

Police have obtained details linked to the mobile number used to make the call and are investigating the identity of the caller. The case was registered on Friday under the relevant provisions, though the police did not identify the caller in the information available.

Jadhav said police had listened to the call. The caller was speaking in Hindi and repeatedly said that Pune airport would be blown up, but reportedly fumbled while speaking before disconnecting.

The incident placed the police control room at the centre of the airport’s emergency response process. Since the threat was not made directly to the airport or an airline, the information had to be passed from the control room to the airport police for assessment and action.

The BDDS search found no suspicious material at the airport, according to the police statement cited by the Times of India. The investigation is continuing based on the mobile number details and the recording of the call.
