A road accident in Pokhari Ghat on the Bhimashankar–Manchar route left two people dead and four seriously injured after an Eco vehicle reportedly lost control and fell into a valley, according to Lokmat – Pune. The vehicle overturned several times and was extensively damaged in the crash.
The vehicle, an Eco bearing registration number MH 14/KW 2091, was travelling from Ghodegaon towards Bhimashankar when the accident occurred. Local residents from the tribal area were travelling in the vehicle. The report identified the vehicle’s owner as Goraksh Rakshe of Dimbhe and the driver as Dnyaneshwar Govind Gawari, 41, of Dhagewadi.
Gawari died in the accident along with an unidentified woman believed to be around 70 years old. The woman was reported to be a local resident, but her identity had not been established at the time of publication.
The four seriously injured passengers were identified as Kanchan Sandeep Kengle, 35, of Jambhori in Nandurkichi Wadi, Ambegaon taluka; Yogesh Devaram Bhange, 26, of Tambe in Junnar taluka; Shivaji Maruti Damse, 60, of Kondhwal in Ambegaon taluka; and Subhadra Pramod Kengle, 40, of Jambhori in Nandurkichi Wadi.
Residents from nearby villages reached the crash site after receiving information about the accident. With the assistance of local people, the injured passengers were removed from the damaged vehicle after ambulances arrived and were taken for medical treatment. The rescue response involved local residents because the vehicle had fallen into the valley and could not be accessed immediately from the road level.
The injured were given preliminary treatment at the Manchar Sub-District Hospital and the Ghodegaon Rural Hospital. Some were later shifted to hospitals in Pune for further treatment, while others were transferred to a private hospital in Manchar. Zilla Parishad vice-president Vivek Walse Patil also reached the site with workers and assisted in the relief operation, the report said.
The accident has again highlighted the risks associated with vehicle movement through ghat sections, where a loss of control can quickly turn into a major rescue operation. The immediate facts available in the report concern the crash, the casualties, the rescue effort and the subsequent medical transfers. The cause has been reported as the driver losing control of the vehicle; details about road conditions, speed, visibility or any mechanical fault were not provided. Further official information on the investigation and the identity of the deceased woman was not available in the supplied report.
