PM Modi Unveils Rs 47,573 Crore Projects in Kanpur

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for 15 transformative development projects in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, collectively valued at over ₹47,573 crore.

Accompanied by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the event marked a significant leap towards modernizing the city’s infrastructure and enhancing its sustainability. A highlight of the inauguration was the unveiling of the underground section of the Kanpur Metro, extending from Chunniganj to Kanpur Central. This addition introduces five new stations: Chunniganj, Bada Chauraha, Naveen Market, Nayaganj, and Kanpur Central, integrating key city landmarks such as Z Square Mall, Green Park Stadium, and Somdutt Plaza into the metro network. The underground corridor, a first for Kanpur, is equipped with advanced tunnel ventilation systems, ensuring safety and comfort for passengers. The project, part of the city’s broader metro expansion, aims to alleviate traffic congestion and promote eco-friendly public transport options.

PM Modi also inaugurated three 660 MW power units in Ghatampur and a thermal power plant in Panki. These projects are expected to stabilize and enhance the electricity supply across Uttar Pradesh and neighboring regions, supporting both industrial growth and residential needs. Additionally, the inauguration of two new railway bridges from Panki to Kalyanpur will facilitate uninterrupted coal and fuel transportation, improving the efficiency of power plants and reducing traffic congestion. In Bingawan, a 40 MLD tertiary treatment plant was dedicated to the nation. This facility will treat sewage water to make it suitable for reuse in industries and irrigation, promoting water conservation and recycling. Furthermore, a new fire station, along with residential and non-residential buildings in the Bithoor area, was inaugurated, strengthening the city’s emergency response capabilities.

PM Modi also virtually inaugurated several other projects across Uttar Pradesh, including two 132 kV power sub-stations in Greater Noida and thermal power plants in Jawaharpur, Obra-C, and Khurja. These initiatives are expected to significantly increase the energy supply system and industrial production in the state. Additionally, the foundation stones for three new projects worth over ₹441 crore were laid, focusing on smart infrastructure, traffic improvement, and urban services in Kanpur and surrounding areas. These projects include the widening and strengthening of Gauria Pali Marg to four lanes, the expansion of the road from Narval Mod on the AH-1 Prayagraj highway to Saand, connecting it to the Kanpur Defence Node as a four-lane road under the Defence Corridor, and the construction of a 220 kV sub-station at Sector-28, YEIDA, Gautam Buddh Nagar. The inauguration of these projects underscores a commitment to sustainable urban development, focusing on enhancing connectivity, energy efficiency, and environmental sustainability. By integrating advanced infrastructure with eco-friendly solutions, Kanpur is poised to become a model for other cities in India, aligning with the nation’s vision for smart and sustainable urban growth.

As these projects come to fruition, they are expected to not only improve the quality of life for Kanpur’s residents but also attract investments, boost economic activities, and position the city as a key player in Uttar Pradesh’s development trajectory.
