PUNE | September 8, 2026 — Police in Pimpri-Chinchwad have taken action against people accused of obstructing roads and creating traffic congestion while filming social-media reels involving luxury cars in Mhalunge MIDC and Bavdhan. Four cars were seized in the Mhalunge case, while a separate case was registered at Bavdhan over filming on a highway.
According to a report by Loksatta, three people were taken into custody after a video recorded on an internal road in Mhalunge MIDC was circulated on social media on September 3. The video allegedly showed vehicles being driven side by side, slowing down and stopping suddenly while a camera and drone were used to record the footage.
The incident took place on the road from Sant Tukaram Chowk towards Minde Wadi, within the jurisdiction of the North Mhalunge MIDC police station. Police reportedly used CCTV footage and vehicle registration numbers visible in the circulated video to identify and seize four luxury cars. A case was registered against the accused for allegedly obstructing traffic and creating a dangerous situation on a public road.
The reported driving pattern involved vehicles travelling parallel to one another, changing speed abruptly and stopping in the middle of the road. Vehicles behind them were allegedly prevented from passing, resulting in traffic congestion and queues. Police said the activity created a risk to the safety of other road users and caused inconvenience to motorists.
In the separate Bavdhan case, a police constable, Suraj Tilekar, filed a complaint after a newly purchased car was reportedly brought to a highway on August 27 for filming reels and videos. Other vehicles were also allegedly brought to the location and positioned together on the road. Some were stopped in the carriageway, while others were driven close together and in parallel during the filming.
The report said the filming took place despite an order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita restricting photography using drones and drone-like cameras at sensitive and important locations within the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate. The alleged conduct included suddenly reducing vehicle speeds, stopping cars and driving multiple vehicles together in a manner that disrupted highway traffic.
A case was registered at Bavdhan police station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. The report identified the people named in the complaint as including the vehicle owner, a photographer and a driver, along with others. Bavdhan police are investigating the case.
