Pune Municipal Corporation will suspend water supply across large parts of the city on Thursday, September 10, while its water-supply department carries out electrical, pumping and civil maintenance work at several treatment centres and related facilities. Supply is expected to resume late and at lower pressure on Friday, September 11.
The work will be undertaken at the Parvati Water Treatment Centre, the Bhama Askhed jackwell, the Warje Water Treatment Centre and other facilities, according to information provided by the municipal water-supply department. Department chief Nandkishor Jagtap said work would begin from midnight on Wednesday and continue through Thursday, resulting in a full-day interruption in affected areas.
The shutdown will cover areas supplied by several tanks and water centres across Pune. Neighbourhoods listed under the Parvati HLR tank include Sahakarnagar, Padmavati, Bibwewadi, Mukundnagar, Maharshinagar, Upper and Lower Indiranagar, Gangadham, Kondhwa Khurd and nearby localities.
The SNDT water centre’s service areas include Gokhalenagar, Aundh, Bopodi, Pune University, Law College Road, parts of Baner Road, Senapati Bapat Road, Bhandarkar Road, Prabhat Road, Paud Road, Mayur Colony and Karve Road. The Bhama Askhed facility supplies areas including Kalas-Dhanori, Lohegaon, Tingre Nagar, Viman Nagar, Vadgaonsheri, Kalyani Nagar, Vishrantwadi, Yerawada and Kharadi. The listed service area also includes Alandi Municipal Council and adjoining localities.
Other affected areas include Baner, Balewadi, Pancard Club Road, Bavdhan, Pashan, Sutarwadi, Sus Road, Kothrud, Karvenagar, Hingne, Aundh, Khadki, Lullanagar, Kondhwa, NIBM, Wanowrie, Katraj, Dhayari, Dhanakwadi, Ambegaon, Sinhagad Road and parts of the adjoining urban fringe. The municipal list also includes areas supplied by the Pancard Club GSR tank, Chandani Chowk tank, the Lashkar water-supply system and the Vadgaon water centre.
The municipal department said the maintenance was necessary and appealed to residents to cooperate. The interruption comes shortly before Ganeshotsav, when household, commercial and public activity typically increases across Pune. Residents in the affected areas are expected to make arrangements for essential water needs before the shutdown begins.
According to the department’s schedule, supply will not be available for the full day on Thursday. On Friday morning, water is expected to arrive late and with reduced pressure as the system is brought back into operation. The municipal announcement did not provide a separate restoration time for each locality.
