Palghar Zilla Parishad’s teacher recruitment process has left 515 posts vacant after document verification, even as 815 candidates were found eligible for appointment, according to a report by Loksatta. The vacancies are in Marathi- and Urdu-medium primary schools across the district.
The recruitment is being conducted through the Pavitra Portal Recruitment 2025 process to fill sanctioned vacancies in the Zilla Parishad’s primary education department. The portal had advertised 1,330 posts, of which 1,294 were for Marathi-medium primary and upper-primary schools. The remaining posts were for Urdu-medium schools.
Of the 1,330 posts advertised, the Pavitra portal recommended 863 candidates to the Palghar Zilla Parishad. A total of 820 recommended candidates attended document verification, while 43 were absent. After officials examined the candidates’ original certificates, 801 candidates were found eligible for appointment and 19 were declared ineligible because of various discrepancies, the report said.
The overall figure of 815 eligible candidates includes candidates selected for both language-medium categories. Against the 1,330 posts listed on the portal, this leaves 515 positions without an eligible candidate at the current stage of the process.
The document-verification exercise also identified 20 candidates as being linked to irregularities in the Teacher Eligibility Test, or TET, according to the report. The source did not provide further details about the nature of the alleged irregularities, the status of any investigation or the action proposed against those candidates.
The recruitment process has therefore produced two separate administrative outcomes: a group of candidates cleared for appointment after verification and a substantial number of posts that remain unfilled. The figures also show that the number of candidates recommended through the recruitment portal was considerably lower than the number of posts advertised.
The vacancies affect primary and upper-primary schools administered by the Palghar Zilla Parishad, where teacher availability is directly linked to the delivery of classroom instruction. The report did not specify how the unfilled posts would be handled or whether a further recruitment round would be conducted.
The next steps in the process are the appointment of candidates found eligible after verification and the authorities’ decision on the remaining 515 vacancies, including posts affected by non-attendance, document discrepancies and the TET-related cases reported during scrutiny.
