Ownly, Rapido’s standalone food-delivery platform, has launched in Hyderabad with a zero-commission model for restaurants, making the city its second market after Bengaluru. The platform will use Rapido Captains to deliver food, while customers will pay the listed food price and a delivery fee.
The Hyderabad launch was announced on Saturday by Ownly in a press release. The company said restaurants would not be charged a commission on orders placed through the platform. It added that customers would not face additional charges beyond the food price and delivery fee.
Ownly was first introduced as a pilot in Bengaluru in March this year. Hyderabad is the next city in the platform’s expansion of food-delivery operations. The company said the city’s established food culture, including its biryani outlets, Irani cafes and late-night food businesses, made it a natural market for the service.
The platform’s delivery operations will be supported by Rapido’s existing Captain network. Rapido Captains, who are already part of the company’s mobility operations, will also undertake food deliveries through Ownly. According to the company, this will create an additional earning opportunity for members of its Captain community.
“Our model is simple: restaurants keep what they earn, customers pay only for their food and delivery, and nobody pays for anything in between,” Aravind Sanka, co-founder of Rapido and Ownly, said in the company’s statement.
Ownly said the zero-commission structure would allow restaurants to retain the full value of each order. It also said customers could order food without inflated menu prices or hidden costs. The supplied announcement did not specify the delivery-fee structure, the number of participating restaurants or the size of the Captain network assigned to Hyderabad.
The app is available as a standalone platform on both iOS and Android. Customers can also access Ownly through the Rapido app, giving the company an opportunity to connect its food-delivery service with its existing urban mobility platform.
To mark the Hyderabad launch, Ownly hosted a biryani event for Rapido Captains in the city. Telugu actor Nani attended the event and interacted with Captains from across Hyderabad.
The launch adds another platform to Hyderabad’s food-delivery market while linking restaurant orders to an existing two-wheeler mobility workforce. Ownly’s next operational milestones in the city will include expanding its restaurant network and delivery coverage, although the company has not announced specific targets or timelines in the supplied statement.
