Operation Kavach Hyderabad saw more than 3,000 police personnel deployed across the city to check vehicles, screen suspicious persons and strengthen night-time public safety, with police reporting seizures of vehicles without number plates and detentions of some individuals.
Hyderabad City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said the operation began after midnight with around 100 teams conducting checks in Chandrayangutta, Mailardevpalli, Bandlaguda, Shamshabad, Attapur and Rajendranagar. The drive included roadblocks and inspections across several police station jurisdictions, with senior officers participating in the operation.
Police said the checks were intended to identify illegal items, including narcotics and weapons, while also enforcing vehicle and traffic requirements. Vehicles without number plates were taken into custody, and action was also taken against vehicles carrying unauthorised VIP markings or illegal modifications.
In the Charminar Zone, the operation covered 15 police station jurisdictions and involved more than 500 personnel, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police Kiran Khare. He said the zonal exercise was conducted between 1 am and 3 am as part of the wider citywide security initiative.
“The operation focused on conducting thorough physical frisking of suspicious individuals, as well as inspecting vehicles lacking number plates,” Khare said, adding that the primary objective was to detect narcotics or weapons. He described the operation as part of continuing public safety measures in the Charminar Zone.
The police said the night-time enforcement effort is linked to other measures, including monitoring whether shops close after 1 am and continuing Operation Chabutra, which is aimed at discouraging loitering in public spaces at night. Khare said police had counselled nearly 4,000 to 5,000 people in recent days as part of the sustained security activity.
Sajjanar urged residents to follow traffic rules, wear helmets and ensure that vehicles display number plates. He also asked citizens to report suspicious vehicles or persons to the police through the emergency helpline 112. The latest operation forms part of the police department’s ongoing checks across Hyderabad and the Charminar Zone.
