Odisha Pitches Chemical Investment Push at India Chem 2026

Odisha will pitch its chemical and petrochemical investment potential at India Chem 2026 in Mumbai on Thursday, with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi scheduled to meet representatives of more than 20 companies and promote a proposed large-scale chemical industrial park.

Majhi, who is on a two-day visit to Mumbai, will participate in the inaugural session and a CEO roundtable chaired by Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister J P Nadda. The state government plans to present Odisha as an investment-ready industrial destination, highlighting its infrastructure, industry policies and expanding manufacturing ecosystem.

The chief minister’s meetings with company representatives are expected to focus on potential investments, industrial expansion, downstream manufacturing and new ventures. Odisha will also showcase opportunities in coal gasification, which the state has identified as an emerging industrial sector.

The proposed chemical industrial park could bring together investments across chemicals, petrochemicals, plastics and packaging. The state government is presenting the park as a way to promote value addition and build a wider industrial ecosystem around manufacturing projects. The source report did not specify the proposed location, investment size or implementation timeline for the park.

Odisha is participating alongside Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu at the industry event. The state is seeking to compete with established chemical manufacturing centres such as Maharashtra and Gujarat by using its resource base, industrial infrastructure and policy framework to attract new projects.

According to official data cited in the report, Odisha has attracted 56 companies in the chemical and petrochemical sector over the past two years. These companies have proposed investments of Rs 1.93 lakh crore and could create employment for 1.12 lakh people. Of those proposals, 27 projects involving Rs 60,825 crore have been launched, with potential employment for 35,351 people.

Recent activity in Jajpur included nine projects, comprising five inaugurations and four groundbreaking initiatives. Together, these projects represent investments of Rs 4,136 crore and are expected to generate 1,508 jobs.

Additional Chief Secretary (Industries) Hemant Sharma said Odisha was expanding its presence in high-potential sectors such as chemicals and petrochemicals through direct engagement with industry leaders and by creating a competitive industrial ecosystem. He said the proposed chemical industrial park and the focus on coal gasification would create further opportunities for investment, value addition and employment.

The state government’s outreach at India Chem 2026 will determine whether the proposed opportunities progress from investment discussions and project proposals to specific company commitments and implementation milestones.
