A 54-year-old worker died after the ceiling of a transformer radiator collapsed on him at a factory in the Kaman area of Naigaon East on Friday afternoon, according to a report by Loksatta. The deceased was identified as Ashok Kisan Wagh, a resident of Kaman who lived with his family near the workplace.
The incident occurred at around 1 p.m. while Wagh was carrying out his routine work at the factory, the report said. The ceiling or covering associated with the transformer radiator suddenly came loose and fell on him, causing serious injuries.
Following the incident, Wagh was taken to a hospital for emergency treatment. Doctors on duty examined him and declared him dead, according to the report. The circumstances of the collapse and the nature of the injuries are expected to form part of the ongoing inquiry.
Naigaon police reached the site after receiving information about the accident and carried out the required preliminary procedures. A case has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, or BNSS, the provision used for proceedings relating to certain deaths. Police have also conducted a panchnama, an official inspection and recording of the circumstances at the scene.
The police investigation is examining the exact cause of the accident and the safety arrangements at the factory. The report does not establish whether the collapse resulted from a structural defect, equipment failure, inadequate maintenance or another cause. It also does not provide details of the factory’s ownership, the transformer’s maintenance history or whether any regulatory inspection had taken place before the incident.
