Girgaon Chowpatty has been equipped with barricades, CCTV cameras, tents, a police chowki and safety boats ahead of Mumbai Ganesh Visarjan on Anant Chaturdashi, as authorities prepare for a large turnout at one of the city’s main natural immersion sites.
The arrangements are intended to regulate the movement of devotees and immersion processions while improving safety at the beach. Barricades have been installed at strategic locations, while tents and other facilities have been set up to help manage crowds during the final day of Ganeshotsav 2026.
CCTV cameras and a police chowki will support monitoring at the site, according to the report by Mid-Day citing ANI. Safety boats have also been deployed near the immersion zone to respond to emergencies at sea during the movement of devotees and idols into the water.
Anant Chaturdashi marks the conclusion of the 10-day Ganesh festival. Large processions are expected across Mumbai as devotees carry idols for immersion, accompanied by traditional music and other ceremonial activities. Chowpatty is expected to receive a particularly large number of devotees because of its role as a major natural immersion location.
The citywide security plan includes more than 24,000 police personnel for the immersion day, officials said. The deployment includes six Joint Commissioners of Police, nine Additional Commissioners of Police, 38 Deputy Commissioners of Police and 66 Assistant Commissioners of Police.
The wider force also includes 3,213 police officers, 18,940 police personnel and 1,050 trainee police personnel assigned to bandobast duty. The deployment has been planned under the guidance of the Mumbai Police Commissioner and will be supervised by the Joint Commissioners of Police for Law and Order and Traffic, according to a police official cited in the report.
The arrangements at Girgaon Chowpatty and the broader police deployment are scheduled for Anant Chaturdashi on September 25, when Mumbai’s immersion processions are expected to continue across multiple parts of the city.
