Mumbai Metro operators have extended services during Ganeshotsav 2026 as the city prepares for higher movement of regular commuters, devotees and tourists, while Mayor Ritu Tawde reviewed crowd-control and passenger facilities at Ghatkopar metro station on Tuesday.
According to an official statement, Tawde inspected facilities at the station and spoke directly with passengers about their travel experiences, concerns and suggestions. The review covered civic services around the station, including cleanliness, health facilities and emergency ambulance services, in coordination with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The mayor also discussed daily passenger facilities with Metro administration officials and directed the administration to take immediate measures to improve the quality and convenience of the commuting experience after hearing feedback from passengers.
Crowd management during peak hours was a central part of the inspection. Tawde held discussions with senior Mumbai Metro officials on operational planning during Ganeshotsav and periods of high demand. The discussions included daily passenger numbers, current ticket fares, Metro operations and the possibility of increasing the number of coaches in the future to accommodate rising passenger demand.
The meeting also covered Metro revenue sources and plans for sustainable revenue generation. Tawde assured the Mumbai Metro administration that the BMC would extend all possible support to improve coordination between the two administrations, particularly around services and crowd movement during the festival.
Officials present from the Metro administration included business Head Ajay Kumar, Deputy General Manager Mayank Rawat and Senior Manager Alpesh Nagda, along with technical and administrative staff. The BMC was represented by N Ward Assistant Commissioner Jaideep More, Medical Officer Dr Ravindra Hange and other officials.
The review comes as Metro operators across Mumbai have announced longer operating hours from September 14 to 25 to support late-night travel for people visiting Ganpati pandals and attending festival events.
Mumbai Metro One Private Limited, which operates the Blue Line or Metro 1 between Versova, Andheri and Ghatkopar, will run its last train from Versova towards Ghatkopar at 12.15 am. The final train from Ghatkopar towards Versova will depart at 12.40 am and reach Versova at 1.03 am.
Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited has extended services on Lines 2A, 2B, 7 and 9 until 12.30 am during the 12-day festive period. The last trains will depart at 12.30 am instead of the regular 11 pm from Andheri West and Dahisar East on Line 2A, Gundavali on Line 7, Kashigaon on Line 9, and Maharashtra Nagar-Mandale and Chembur on Line 2B.
Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited has also extended services on the Aqua Line, or Metro 3, from September 14 to 25. The last trains from Cuffe Parade and Aarey JVLR, which normally depart at 10.30 pm, will instead operate until midnight.
