The Maharashtra government has made Rs 170 crore available for 104 jetty, approach-road and coastal infrastructure works across Mumbai and the Konkan region, covering projects in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg.
The funding will support the construction and improvement of jetties, roads leading to jetties, retaining walls, erosion-control bunds, dredging works and passenger facilities. Of the 104 projects, 75 works have been allocated Rs 126 crore, while 29 projects involving roads to ports, rail connectivity and backwater development have received a provision of Rs 44 crore, according to a report by Loksatta – Mumbai.
The 75 works are being funded under the Maharashtra Maritime Board assistance grant scheme for floating jetties and related passenger facilities. The scheme has received an overall approval of Rs 577.53 crore. By the end of March 2026, Rs 133.92 crore had been released for these works, while a further Rs 126 crore has been provided for 2026-27.
In the Mumbai region, the projects include a retaining wall at Colaba-Gitanganar, works at Khar-Danda and the passenger jetty at Belapur. Additional jetty and approach-road projects are planned in Dombivli, Uttan and parts of Thane. The report said work at Colaba had been completed, while 40 per cent of the work at Belapur remained pending.
Palghar district projects covered by the allocation include jetty and passenger-facility works at Vasai Fort, Naigaon, the Vasai roll-on-roll-off jetty, Narangi and the Arnala Fort area. The height-raising work at Naigaon Benkar jetty has been completed, according to the report.
The allocation also covers projects in Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, although the report did not provide a project-by-project breakdown or completion schedule for all the works. The package combines passenger access, coastal protection and links to ports and waterways, with implementation spread across multiple districts and agencies.
The latest provision is part of the state’s continuing financial support for Maharashtra Maritime Board projects. Further progress will depend on the release and utilisation of the sanctioned funds, along with the completion of pending works such as the remaining construction at Belapur.
