The Maharashtra government has made ₹170 crore available for 104 jetty and coastal access projects across Mumbai and the Konkan region, according to a report by Loksatta. The allocation is intended to accelerate construction and improvement works involving jetties, approach roads, protective walls, erosion-control bunds, dredging and passenger amenities.
The funding is divided between two categories. A total of ₹126 crore has been allocated for 75 works under the Maharashtra Maritime Board’s assistance grant scheme for floating jetties and related passenger facilities. Another ₹44 crore has been provided for 29 projects involving roads, railway links to ports and backwater development.
The projects are spread across Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. In the Mumbai region, the listed works include a protective wall at Colaba-Gitānagar, projects at Khar-Danda and the Belapur passenger jetty, as well as jetty and approach-road works in Dombivli, Uttan and parts of Thane.
According to the report, work at Colaba has been completed in full, while 40 per cent of the works at Belapur remain pending. The funding is therefore intended both to support new coastal infrastructure and to move forward projects that are already under implementation.
Palghar district projects covered by the allocation include jetty and passenger-facility works around Vasai Fort, Naigaon, the Vasai roll-on/roll-off jetty, Narangi and the Arnala Fort area. The height-raising work at Naigaon Benkar jetty has been completed, the report said.
The state has sanctioned a broader amount of ₹577.53 crore for 75 works under the scheme. Of this, ₹133.92 crore had been distributed by the end of March 2026, while a further provision of ₹126 crore has been made for the 2026-27 financial year. The latest allocation forms part of this funding framework for coastal and port-linked infrastructure.
The projects include both physical access and operational facilities. Approach roads are intended to connect jetties with surrounding settlements and transport networks, while protective walls and erosion-control bunds address the condition of coastal assets. Dredging and passenger amenities are also included among the works identified for funding.
The allocation covers infrastructure serving multiple coastal locations rather than a single corridor. The inclusion of roads, railway connections and backwater development also links the jetty programme with wider access to ports and waterfront areas. The report did not provide individual project-wise timelines or completion dates for all 104 works.
The state government’s funding provision for 2026-27 and the distribution of funds across the six districts will determine the pace at which the remaining works advance. Pending projects, including the unfinished portion of the Belapur passenger jetty works, remain among the next implementation milestones.
