Kolkata Metro services on the Blue Line will be suspended between Shahid Khudiram and Maidan stations for nine hours on Sunday, 1 November, as maintenance work is carried out between Netaji and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar stations. The disruption will run from 9 am to 6 pm and is being imposed because of a traffic and power block along the stretch.
According to the Kolkata Metro Railway office, commercial services between Shahid Khudiram and Maidan will remain suspended during the maintenance period. The block is intended to allow work to be undertaken between Netaji and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar stations, which lie on the Blue Line.
Services between Dakshineswar and Maidan will continue to operate during the block period, according to the Metro authorities. Normal services across the entire Blue Line are expected to resume after 6 pm on Sunday.
The partial suspension means passengers travelling through the affected southern section of the Blue Line will need to account for the interruption during the day. The affected section includes stations between Shahid Khudiram and Maidan, while the operational stretch between Dakshineswar and Maidan will continue to run during the maintenance window.
The Metro office has also said that the Yellow and Green lines will operate normally on Sunday. However, there will be no direct services between Jai Hind Bimanbandar and Dakshineswar on that day.
The Purple and Orange lines will not operate commercial services on 1 November because they do not run such services on Sundays, according to the information issued by the Kolkata Metro Railway office.
The scheduled interruption highlights the operational coordination required when maintenance work involves both traffic and power blocks on an active metro corridor. The service pattern announced for Sunday separates the affected section from the part of the Blue Line that will remain operational, limiting the suspension to the Shahid Khudiram–Maidan stretch during the stated hours.
Passengers using the Blue Line are expected to face the disruption between 9 am and 6 pm, while commuters using the Yellow and Green lines can continue to use those services normally. The full Blue Line is expected to return to normal operation after 6 pm once the maintenance block ends.
