India Post will implement a new administrative structure across Gujarat from 1 November, creating five new postal divisions and giving Ahmedabad three separate divisions as part of an effort to speed up services and simplify customer grievance handling.
The restructuring was announced at events held in Ahmedabad on 31 October. The newly created Ahmedabad Heritage City Postal Division was inaugurated at Ahmedabad General Post Office, while the office of the Postmaster General (Logistics) was opened at the Speed Post Bhavan in Shahibaug. The ceremonies were conducted by the Postmaster General of the North Gujarat Region, according to the report.
The five new postal divisions created under the reorganisation are Ahmedabad Heritage City, Ahmedabad Utkarsh, Dahod, Surat East and Gandhidham. The changes are intended to increase administrative capacity and support a more customer-focused, technology-based and efficient postal network, the report said.
Ahmedabad district will now have three postal divisions: Ahmedabad City, Ahmedabad Heritage City and Ahmedabad Utkarsh. The new arrangement separates the city’s postal administration into three units, with the stated objective of improving operational management and making it easier for customers to access services and resolve complaints.
The restructuring also changes the administrative composition of the North Gujarat Region. The Bhavnagar and Surendranagar postal divisions have been moved from the Rajkot Region into the North Gujarat Region. With their inclusion, the North Gujarat Region will have nine divisions: Ahmedabad City, Ahmedabad Heritage City, Ahmedabad Utkarsh, Gandhinagar, Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Surendranagar and Bhavnagar. This will make it the largest region in the North Gujarat Circle, the report said.
A separate logistics structure has also been created to place postal transport and related commercial operations under a single administrative arrangement. The new Postmaster General (Logistics) and Director (Sales) offices will oversee all Railway Mail Service offices in Gujarat, the Foreign Post Office, transport services and the Mail Motor Service.
The logistics office is part of the department’s stated effort to give greater priority to logistics-related business and coordinate the movement of mail and associated services. India Post has described the reorganisation as being aligned with the approach of “minimum government, maximum governance”, while the report linked the changes to faster delivery and more accessible grievance redressal.
The revised structure will become operational across Gujarat on 1 November 2026. The department’s immediate implementation will determine how responsibilities are distributed between the new divisions and how customers and businesses interact with the reorganised offices.
