Katraj-Kondhwa Road Set for March 2027 Opening After Land Delays

Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishor Ram has said the widened Katraj-Kondhwa Road will be completed and opened to traffic in March 2027, as the Pune Municipal Corporation works to acquire the remaining private properties blocking the project in southern Pune. The commissioner made the announcement after inspecting the road and reviewing the ongoing widening work with civic and government officials.

The road has been under construction for several years and is regarded by the civic administration as a key gateway to southern Pune. The project has faced delays because land required for widening remained in private ownership and funding for acquisition was not available earlier. The state government has now provided some financial assistance to the PMC for acquiring land in the area, according to the report.

The PMC is currently trying to take possession of 10 privately owned properties that continue to obstruct the widening work. Owners whose properties are required for the project are being paid compensation before the land is taken over. Ram said the civic body plans to secure all the required properties by March 2027 and inaugurate the road for traffic during the same period.

The PMC has decided to widen the road to 84 metres. However, because completing the land acquisition process will take time, the road is initially being developed to a temporary width of 50 metres. The commissioner said the civic body plans to acquire the remaining land and expand the road to its planned 84-metre width within two years.

The inspection was attended by MLA Yogesh Tilekar, house leader Ganesh Bidkar, road department head Rajesh Bankar, deputy commissioner Nikhil More, electrical department head Manisha Shekatkar, and officials from the special land acquisition office and the National Highways Department. Their participation reflects the multiple agencies involved in completing the road project and resolving the land-related obstacles.

The project’s immediate milestone is the acquisition of the 10 remaining private properties and the completion of the 50-metre road section. The PMC’s stated target is to open the widened Katraj-Kondhwa Road to traffic in March 2027, followed by further land acquisition and expansion towards the planned 84-metre width.
