Jammu and Kashmir Starts Work on Motorable Bridge to Boost Connectivity in Rajouri
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has commenced work on a much-anticipated motorable bridge that will connect Naushera to Seri Block in Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir. The new bridge promises to significantly improve the lives of villagers, offering better access to essential services and cutting down travel times, particularly for patients needing emergency medical attention.
For years, villagers in these remote areas of Rajouri have faced challenges in terms of travel connectivity, with long distances separating them from vital facilities. The new bridge will link 10 villages, helping reduce the isolation felt by many, and providing more accessible routes for local residents. One villager, speaking to ANI, expressed relief over the ongoing construction, saying, “After the construction of the bridge, it will provide us a lot of convenience. It will reduce our travel time and improve connectivity.” Another villager echoed similar sentiments, sharing how the bridge will save an hour in travel time, bringing joy and optimism to the community. The region’s infrastructure development has also been bolstered by other initiatives, including the inauguration of several road and bridge projects across Jammu and Kashmir by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in October 2024. This included the completion of 12 bridge projects, as well as several road improvements under the BRO’s Project Sampark and Project Beacon. The total investment for these projects amounted to ₹731.22 crore, further enhancing connectivity across the border region.
Notably, these infrastructure projects have broader implications for the local population. Improved road networks and bridges contribute to better access to healthcare, education, and employment opportunities, which are essential for the region’s overall development. In addition to road and bridge projects, Jammu and Kashmir is also witnessing improvements in rail connectivity. On January 23, 2025, Indian Railways conducted a trial run of the first Vande Bharat semi-high-speed train between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) and Srinagar railway stations. This new train service is particularly significant as it will pass through two of India’s most remarkable engineering feats—Anji Khad Bridge, the country’s first cable-stayed railway bridge, and the Chenab Bridge, which is the highest railway bridge in the world. Designed specifically for the cold climate of Kashmir, the Vande Bharat train is expected to improve connectivity and boost tourism and economic activity in the region.
The Vande Bharat Express has become a symbol of India’s growing prowess in high-speed rail technology, and it’s attracting attention internationally. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently revealed that several countries had expressed interest in importing these trains, underscoring the success of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. The train has already become a point of pride for many Indian citizens, with reports of overseas Indians eagerly looking forward to experiencing the train during their visits to India. The construction of the Naushera-Seri Block bridge and the launch of the Vande Bharat train are just two examples of the transformative infrastructure projects unfolding across Jammu and Kashmir. These initiatives are playing a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for residents, improving accessibility, and helping the region keep pace with India’s broader economic growth. With ongoing projects that span across roadways, railways, and other critical infrastructure, Jammu and Kashmir is set to witness substantial improvements in its connectivity, driving long-term development in the region.
