Jahangirpuri House Fire Injures Delhi Firefighter After LPG Blast

A firefighter sustained burns while responding to a house fire in northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri on Friday after an LPG cylinder exploded inside the ground-floor residence, police said. The incident led to the registration of a case against a 30-year-old man who allegedly set the house on fire.

The Delhi Police received a PCR call at 11.26 a.m. reporting a fire at a house in Jahangirpuri. Bharat, who lived at the property with his mother, Raj Rani, allegedly started the fire while his mother was also present, according to the police.

A Delhi Fire Service team reached the three-storey building and began extinguishing the blaze. During the operation, a cylinder exploded, injuring Ankit, 32, an Assistant Fire Officer. Police said he suffered burns to his face, hair and both hands, with his injuries assessed at about 25 per cent.

Ankit was initially taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital. He was later referred to the burn ward of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences for further treatment, the police said.

Fire department officers said the fire involved household articles and an LPG cylinder located on the ground floor. The incident highlights the risks faced by emergency personnel when domestic fires involve cooking-gas cylinders and combustible household material, although the authorities have not released further details about the condition of the residents or the extent of damage to the building.

Police have registered an FIR against Bharat under Section 36(g) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for mischief by fire. Further investigation is under way.
