Delhi Police arrested 944 alleged cybercriminals after a two-day nationwide operation that involved raids across 17 states and five Union territories, with investigators resolving fraud cases linked to about ₹479.14 crore, according to officials cited by Jagran – New Delhi.
Operation Siahawk 6.0 was conducted across the national capital on October 28 and 29 to target organised cybercrime networks and the wider supply chain that supports online fraud. Police said 4,979 suspects were detained for questioning during the operation, after which 944 people were arrested.
The enforcement action extended beyond individuals directly involved in fraud. Police also targeted people who allegedly provided bank accounts and SIM cards on commission or rent, operators of call centres, money-laundering networks, SIM-box operators and others involved in the creation or use of fraudulent financial identities.
Joint Commissioner Chinmoy Biswal said the operation focused on people who rented out bank accounts, helped open accounts through fraudulent means, leaked data, or issued SIM cards in other people’s names. The action also included bank employees and agencies allegedly connected with account opening or data leaks, according to the report.
Joint Commissioner Nupur Prasad said the latest operation recorded an approximately 24 per cent increase in new first information reports compared with Operation Siahawk 5.0, which was conducted on June 16 and 17. The number of National Cybercrime Reporting Portal complaints resolved also rose by 46 per cent, while action was taken on more than 57 per cent of complaints originating in other states.
The police operation resulted in 1,032 FIRs and the resolution of 4,002 complaints registered through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal. Of these complaints, 727 were from Delhi and 3,275 were from other states, highlighting the inter-state character of the networks investigated through the city-based operation.
According to the figures released in the report, police seized 1,037 mobile phones, 1,301 SIM cards, six SIM boxes, 106 laptops and computers, 397 ATM cards, 244 passbooks and bank kits, and 325 Aadhaar cards. Investigators also recovered ₹37.67 lakh in cash, 11 cars, 10 two-wheelers, gold and cryptocurrency.
The raids were conducted by 283 Delhi Police teams in locations stretching from Jammu, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab to Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, and from Gujarat and Maharashtra to West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha. The operation’s geographic spread reflects how online fraud investigations increasingly require coordination across multiple jurisdictions rather than action limited to the city where a complaint is filed.
The police have not provided, in the supplied report, a further breakdown of the arrests by alleged offence, state or stage of investigation. The next steps will depend on the cases registered and the continuing investigation into the financial, communications and identity-document networks identified during the operation.
