Jabil to Expand AirPod Casing Production in India with New Plant in Trichy

Jabil, a key Apple supplier, has announced plans to establish a second plant in Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), Tamil Nadu.

The facility will boost the production of AirPod plastic enclosures, reinforcing India’s rising prominence in Apple’s global supply chain. Jabil currently produces AirPod casings at its existing plant in Pune, Maharashtra. As Apple looks to diversify manufacturing beyond China, the proposed Trichy unit represents a pivotal step toward building a robust ecosystem for premium audio components within India. Although construction on the new plant has not yet begun, the initiative gained traction after senior Jabil executives met with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin in Chennai. The team also surveyed the Trichy site, signalling strong government support and early groundwork for the expansion.

Industry experts note that AirPod casing manufacturing remains a relatively young segment in India’s electronics sector. However, with the increasing global demand for Apple products and India’s improving industrial capabilities, the sector is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. Jabil’s early investment positions the company advantageously in a sector likely to play a crucial role in Apple’s Make in India ambitions. By localising hardware production and developing a competitive edge in premium audio components, Jabil is not only aligning with Apple’s long-term manufacturing strategy but also contributing to India’s goal of becoming a global electronics hub.

This development comes amid Apple’s broader efforts to scale up device assembly and component sourcing in India, further cementing the country’s importance in the global tech manufacturing landscape.
