Indiramma Housing Scheme Expands as Telangana Sanctions 7 Lakh Homes

Telangana Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy distributed sanction letters to beneficiaries under the second phase of the Indiramma housing scheme at Kusumanchi in Palair constituency on Monday, saying the programme would continue despite financial constraints and cover every eligible poor family.

The distribution was initiated from the minister’s camp office in Kusumanchi mandal on the eve of Dasara. Reddy said the state government had sanctioned 4.5 lakh houses during the first phase and another 2.5 lakh houses in the second phase, taking the total number of sanctioned homes to 7 lakh across Telangana.

The minister said the scheme was being implemented without discrimination based on caste, religion or political affiliation. He added that eligible families in rural areas and tribal hamlets were receiving housing sanctions in phases.

According to the figures cited by Reddy, nearly 2.4 lakh Indiramma houses had already been completed across the state. The announcement places the latest sanction distribution within a wider government effort to move from beneficiary identification and approvals to house construction and completion.

Reddy also said steps were being taken to construct one lakh houses in the CURE area, where construction of Indiramma Towers had commenced. The source report did not provide further details about the location, design, funding arrangement or construction timeline for the towers.

The minister said the government would sanction houses in the third and fourth phases as well. He linked the continuation of the programme to the state’s commitment to provide homes to eligible poor families, while acknowledging the financial constraints facing the government.

The scheme’s implementation involves multiple stages, including identifying eligible households, issuing sanction letters, constructing houses and completing them for occupation. The figures announced in Kusumanchi therefore distinguish between sanctioned homes and houses already completed, with the latter standing at nearly 2.4 lakh according to the minister’s statement.

The latest distribution also covers constituencies represented by opposition party MLAs, Reddy said. This was presented as evidence that political representation would not determine eligibility for housing support.

The government’s stated next steps are to continue issuing sanctions in phases, complete houses already approved and extend the programme through its proposed third and fourth phases. The minister also said work related to one lakh houses in the CURE area would proceed alongside the broader Indiramma housing programme.
