A new U-turn facility has been built before Hyderabad’s My Home Avatar/NPCI Junction to reduce congestion and traffic conflicts on the route towards the Financial District, Nanakramguda and adjoining areas. The vehicular underpass was constructed by Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL) at a cost of ₹2.2 crore following a request from the traffic police.
According to a statement issued on Saturday, the existing underpass at My Home Avatar/NPCI Junction was carrying traffic towards the Financial District and nearby areas. The area has seen high-rise residential and commercial developments, increasing traffic density around the junction and contributing to frequent congestion and gridlock, particularly during peak hours.
The traffic movement created a specific conflict between vehicles travelling from the Right Side Road (RSR) towards the Left Side Road (LSR). These vehicles were required to enter the main junction and negotiate with other traffic flows before reaching the connecting road. The arrangement increased the number of vehicle movements passing through the junction and added to delays.
To separate this movement from the main junction traffic, the traffic police requested HGCL to provide a U-turn facility before My Home Avatar Junction. HGCL, a wing of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), subsequently built the vehicular underpass as part of the proposed arrangement.
The facility allows vehicles travelling from the RSR to the LSR to make the movement through the U-turn without interfering with traffic passing through the main junction. The stated objective is to improve vehicle movement and reduce conflicts at a junction affected by rising traffic from surrounding residential and commercial development.
The intervention reflects the operational pressure placed on junctions in Hyderabad’s expanding growth corridors, where new housing and commercial construction can increase traffic demand around road infrastructure originally designed for lower volumes. In this case, the traffic police identified the movement between the two side roads as a particular source of conflict and sought a targeted engineering response rather than routing all vehicles through the central junction.
The ₹2.2-crore project has been completed by HGCL, and the new underpass is intended to support smoother movement between the RSR and LSR. The traffic police and HGCL are the agencies identified in the statement as responsible for requesting and delivering the facility.
