Hyderabad Traffic Curbs Hit Jubilee Hills Corridor
HYDERABAD: Traffic movement between Jubilee Hills Check Post and the KBR Park stretch has been narrowed to a single lane as construction activity intensifies along the corridor. The restriction is expected to slow vehicles and add pressure to surrounding roads, making route planning increasingly important for daily commuters.
The restriction is linked to construction of a steel flyover and an underpass in the Jubilee Hills-KBR Park area. Hyderabad Traffic Police has advised motorists to proceed carefully, follow instructions from personnel deployed along the route and use the designated traffic arrangements. The disruption comes as the wider KBR Park corridor undergoes extensive infrastructure work under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) programme. Construction activity is taking place at multiple major junctions, requiring temporary changes to road circulation while structures are built. The corridor is already one of the city’s busiest traffic zones. Recent traffic assessments identified Jubilee Hills Check Post as the busiest junction among the key locations around KBR Park, with traffic volumes reaching more than 15,000 vehicles an hour during peak periods. Other major junctions in the area also handle substantial volumes, increasing the likelihood that restrictions at one location will affect neighbouring routes.
A broader one-way traffic arrangement around KBR Park has also been introduced as part of the construction strategy. The system covers a roughly 5.9-km circulation loop and is expected to remain in place for an extended construction period. Early implementation has already resulted in delays at some locations, highlighting the challenge of maintaining traffic flow while major civil works occupy existing road space. For commuters, the immediate concern is not limited to longer travel times. Lane reductions can create spillover congestion, particularly during morning and evening peaks, while changes in familiar routes can affect pedestrians, cyclists, public transport users and emergency vehicles as well as private motorists. The situation also underscores the importance of construction-phase traffic management in major urban projects. Clear signage, coordinated field management and timely communication can reduce confusion when road layouts change. Recent traffic management around KBR Park has involved personnel being deployed at intersections to guide road users through the revised movement pattern.
As construction progresses, the key test will be whether temporary restrictions can be managed without creating persistent bottlenecks across adjoining neighbourhoods. For Hyderabad, maintaining access and safety during infrastructure construction will remain as important as delivering the projects themselves.
