Hyderabad Telangana Airport Projects Advance Across Multiple Districts
Hyderabad: Telangana’s regional aviation expansion has moved a step forward, with infrastructure works for the proposed Mamnoor Airport in Warangal entering the tendering stage, while feasibility assessments for new airports in Adilabad and Peddapalli continue. The latest progress reflects ongoing efforts to improve regional air connectivity and strengthen transport infrastructure beyond Hyderabad.
The Telangana airport projects form part of a broader strategy to improve accessibility for emerging economic centres and support balanced regional development. According to the latest official update, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has approved the Mamnoor Airport project, with tenders invited for core infrastructure including the runway, taxiway, apron and boundary works. The proposed airport in Warangal is expected to improve connectivity for northern and eastern Telangana while supporting industrial growth, tourism, education and healthcare access. Enhanced regional aviation infrastructure can also reduce travel time for businesses and strengthen links between smaller cities and national transport networks. Progress on other proposed airports remains at different stages. A techno-economic feasibility assessment has been completed for the planned airport at Adilabad, with land requirements communicated to the state government for further consideration. Meanwhile, a pre-feasibility study for a proposed greenfield airport at Peddapalli has already been submitted, allowing the project to move towards subsequent planning decisions.
However, not all proposals have advanced. Site investigations for the proposed airport in Bhadradri Kothagudem concluded that the identified location was unsuitable because of surrounding terrain and existing railway infrastructure. Urban infrastructure experts note that careful site selection remains essential to ensure operational safety, environmental compatibility and long-term project viability. The Telangana airport projects also complement the Centre’s broader objective of expanding regional air connectivity through the UDAN scheme, which seeks to improve access to air travel in underserved regions. Better aviation infrastructure can stimulate investment, improve logistics and create new economic opportunities across tier-two and tier-three cities.
Transport planners emphasise that future airport development should be integrated with road, rail and public transport networks to maximise accessibility while limiting environmental impacts. Sustainable planning, efficient land use and multimodal connectivity will be critical as Telangana expands its aviation infrastructure to meet future demand. With the Mamnoor project moving into the execution phase and feasibility studies progressing elsewhere, Telangana’s regional aviation network is gradually taking shape. The pace of implementation will now depend on land availability, regulatory approvals and coordinated infrastructure planning across the state.
